Celebrating Black History Month

RCPS celebrates Black History Month 2026! We highlight the past to inform and inspire the future. This year’s theme is “A Century of Black History Commemorations.” Dr. Carter G. Woodson established an inaugural week-long Black History observance in 1926, which became a month-long national observance in 1976. The Association for the Study of African American Life and History, an organization created by Dr. Woodson and other founders, creates a theme each year for Black History Month. #BHM #BHM2026 #BlackHistoryMonth
