Dr. Lonnie J. White, III - a.k.a. “Coach White”, is excited to lead the Salem High School girls/boys varsity track teams.  Coach White’s background in track and field began as a student/athlete at Stone Mountain High School where he was a GHSA champion in the hurdles, long jump, and relay events.  He also was a member of the internationally renowned Dekalb County Express Track Club (D.C. Express) young men’s Georgia TAC/USA championship 4x100 meter relay team.  He earned a scholarship to Albany State University and achieved the distinction a a collegiate NCAA Division II All-American in track and field.  

Coach White has a proven record of coaching his teams to championship success.  At the middle school level his teams won back-to-back team titles both in Albany Georgia as the city champions at Southside Middle School and Clayton County champions at Kendrick Middle School in Jonesboro Georgia.  As a Varsity Head Coach at Riverdale High School in Riverdale Georgia his teams won multiple girls/boys GHSA AAAAA regional and state team championship titles.  Coach White coached Clayton County’s only girls state championship team in track and field.  He was also the founder of the Running Panthers Track Club of Clayton County which holds the distinction of being the first youth summer track and field program in the Southern Crescent area.  The Georgia Athletic Coaches Association, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, and the Atlanta Track Club has recognized him as their regional and state track coach of the year.  Moreover, he is honored to have facilitated opportunities for multiple student athletes to earn collegiate scholarships in track and field to various colleges and universities across the United States in his combined 28 years in education. The motto that he coaches by is clear, “Champions practice the way they Win.”

He is happily married to his wife of 22 years Attorney Margaret Davis White.  They have two children Lonnie Joseph White, IV and Layla Alexis White.
